Happy Easter

It is fun decorating for Easter and as a family we decorated the lavender plant, painted some eggs and got our Easter Bunny out ready for the Easter egg hunt.

Have fun hunting and eating chocolate my friends.

The Goddess Experience

The Goddess Experience by Gisele Scanlon

I have seen reviews on this book recently in blog posts and though I can be skeptical at times of other peoples ideas of what is good or bad, let's face it, it comes down to personal opinion. I thought I would give this a try and get a copy off Amazon. This book was published in 2008 and even though it is a little dated this book is not out of date completely. I was lucky enough to find a very good quality second hand version on Amazon and paid a mere £2.14 with free delivery. And to top it off it is a signed copy too.

I have read a few chapters so far and am finding it extremely engaging and I love the use of Gisele's language as I can relate to it, not that I am Irish but I am a northern girl living in the south. Her writing is very up-beat and high energy, very entertaining and funny. I am enjoying her pursuit for happiness and quizzing people about what makes them happy, why they spend hours queuing for tasty delights and how she talks to hotel lampshades! What tickled me the most was how she remembers the name of the French hotel.  I could go on but even though this book is based on 2008 don't let that dissuade you, get a second hand copy.

Face Mask Friday

Due to the unseasonable weather and the need to be warm and snug this Face Mask Friday will be a shear indulgence event.

Organic Hot Chocolate, you can find this in Waitrose and is a far superior taste to the standard cheaper version, placed into my favourite Starbucks mug which has flown back to the UK with me from Canada, (yes I know all about the tax issues with this company). To add to this chocoholic session, my fave Hotel Chocolat items filled with creams and caramels will be consumed with gusto. Last but not least I will be wearing Deep Sea purifying clay mask from Superdrugs. I should mention that I intend to wash the mask off before I eat or drink.

Michael Kors

Oh my, oh my. I am so privileged to know some fabulous people. This was a gift given to me over the weekend and I was thrilled to receive it. My friend had just come back from holiday and she got me this beauty. I mean what can I say other than a huge thank you. She brought a leather bag for me from Paris not to long ago as a belated Christmas present but this Michael Kors bag came as a very lovely surprise.

Lucky me!

Save the Bees

If you are not aware nor concerned about the bee population you really should read-up on it. If bees disappear it will have a devastating affect on the food we eat and the life we have. Scientists are baffled by the phenomenon. I think the belief is the amount of pesticides being used in farming. This site, Soil Association can answers some questions you may have and what we can do to help.

Without bees we would not have honey, bees wax and lovely organic products we use today. Let's help to save the bees

I really like Burt's Bees products. I keep this Beeswax Lip Balm in my pocket. I have had this a while and seems to last. When applied to the lips it has a tingling sensation which is nice and refreshing somehow and it definitely works and I love that is is natural. However, I prefer lip balms where I do not have to rub it on my finger first, it also takes a bit of time to warm-up before it can be applied to the lips.

Hand cream free in Marie Claire
Bee Lovely

I bought the Marie Claire magazine this week and they had a free 50ml hand cream by Neal's Yard Remedies, Covent Garden which is worth a tenner. It is a nice thick cream with a yellow tinge and it smells delightful enough to eat. Ingredients include natural honey and orange essential oils, it smells lovely I can't get enough of it and it can be used on children aged three upwards. My skin was instantly smooth and I used it on the daughters hands which are very dry at the moment and she loved it (she is under five years old).

I am increasingly into my natural products, the less chemical products we put on our bodies the better. These natural products are a definite bonus for me. I can also use them on my kids without feeling guilty.

Nails, Nails, Nails

MUA nail polish is surprisingly good quality considering its price tag. Even though it is a budget priced item I have to say it is up there with the likes of Nails inc. It flow onto the nails without running or being thick and heavy. One application was enough but I like to add two with a top coat for added protection since I am constantly chipping my nails polish through household chores.

Nail Constellation - Gemini

I also brought Nail Constellation - Gemini but I have not tried it yet.

I have said it before and I will say it again, I am loving this brand. If you like to shop on a budget and looking for quality, MUA is the way to go. I am looking forward to their new Power Pout lipsticks in store next month.

The Splurge

I could not help myself I had to go into the local Superdrug and Boots store and purchased a few items. I live in a village and my nearest town has limited stock so I have to make do with what is available but I am happy so far, I will have to go into the city soon so I can have a luxury splurge.

Nails, blush and face wash

I can't wait to try the nail constellation by MUA. The blush is a lovely colour.

Botanics face wash leaves a silky smooth texture.  Great product for sensitive skin.

What's on my face?

I like to keep my make-up simple during day time wear so I use as little products as I can manage. L'Occatine  face cream is fast becoming my favorite moisturizer, this was a sample in my March Glossybox. The MUA BB is a new find for me and I find it has amazing coverage and I do not need to apply foundation.  I am very happy and surprised by the quality of MUA products particularly as they are very reasonably priced. I think MUA will be a staple in my make-up bag. I add blusher, the MUA again, applied using an ecotools brush which I bought when I was in Canada but I have seen them in Boots too. Soap and Glory Arc De Triumph is something I can not live without, highlighter at one end and the other is an eyebrow filler. Last but not least Jelly Pong Pong lippy again this was in my March Glossybox.

Hotel Chocolat

Hotel Chocolat
Utterly luxurious yummy chocs, perfect for a night alone watching a chick flick or a night with the other half with the candles burning and snuggled up on the sofa. Or, a night just for scoffing chocolates.

Who would you share your Hotel Chocolat with?

Barbour Jacket

I got this jacket for my birthday. I have been wanting a Barbour jacket in red for quite some time, so when I saw it in the outlet store discounted, my husband brought it for me. These coats are quite heavy but great quality. Great to wear during spring and autumn seasons but if layered can work well in winter. I got a size bigger so that I can wear layers and wooly sweaters during colder days.

Love this coat, worth every penny.

Face Mask Friday

Superdrug have a deal on their face masks, buy three get one free, so I did.

I have seen a number of blogs writing on Friday's about face masks, so I have jumped on the train. As it happens when I do a face mask night it tends to be on a Friday, having young kids, going out on-the-town is an occasional event, besides if I am a little hung-over the kids are very unforgiving. I digress. So Fridays are spent with my two girls explaining what the hell is on my face and why on earth would I put mud on it. Not really a bad thing since when they are older they will probably have a better beauty regime than I. There is an added bonus for them, they get their toe nails painted!

So tonight I will be wearing a Fruit Sorbet Antioxidant Mask.

Beauty Balm - BB

MUA Beauty Balm is one of those products I wished I had bought sooner. This is amazingly moisturizing and provides a nice base, hides blemishes and any red skin tones. Infact, I have used this just on its own with blusher and lippy when I have been in a hurry and it looks fine. I like this product, great whilst the skin is still dry from the winter blitz.

I have sensitive, combination skin so it is nice to get something that suits my skin type. I got this in its lightest form but I think I could go one shade darker.

Great purchase at a great price.

Glossybox UK

It has taken me some time to consider whether it would be worth my while jumping on the beauty box bandwagon and investing in Glossybox. I have read a number of negative reviews on the social media platforms recently and there are a number of disgruntled customers who have been unsubscribing and some switching to Birchbox which even I considered subscribing to. But I decided to sign-up once I saw what was in the March Glossybox since the products were of interest to me. I have signed up for three months in total. I received this package a few days ago and wanted to test out some of the products before writing up a beauty review. So here it is...

...The courier knocked on my door and after much anticipation of receiving this little box I took care before I opened it. Normally I would rip open a new package but I was a little apprehensive and was almost building myself up to be disappointed after all the mixed blog posts I had read. The outer box was a bit bruised from all its travel, not a good sign I thought. I opened it carefully and considerately to find a lovely, un-spoilt, sturdy pink box. I opened it to find a travel book with lots of  useful information about places to visit in certain countries and a bunch of fun stickers which I have used to cover my Glossybox.

Also included was a information leaflet, describing the contents of my box and the prices etc. It was time to unwrap the black tissue paper and undo the pretty pink ribbon.

I was thrilled to see inside:

L'Occitane En Provence Immortal Precious Cream. It smells nice, not over powering and it is a nice silky smooth cream. A great size too for a sample. I would purchase this for sure.

Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream. This cream has won awards! A number of bloggers complained of the smell since it is meant to be fragrance free. Let's think about that shall we? I mean, there is always going to be a smell from ingredients, very little is odorless and this product does not claim to be odorless but fragrance free, there is a difference. Yes there is a little smell to it but once it has been rubbed in and absorbed the smell disappears within a few minutes. It instantly makes the skin smooth and moisturized. Sample size was very small, I bet you could get this as a freebie, nevertheless another winner for me.

Jelly Pong Lip Blush. Got to say I am not a fan of the name of this item, Jelly and Pong!!! Oh well, nothing I can change about that. Having said that, if this had not been in my beauty box I would never had considered purchasing it if I has seen it in a store. I was pleasantly surprised to find this to be a lovely, beautiful colour and it stays on! Better than a lot of lipsticks. I received the full sized product. Very pleased to say the least.

Nails Inc Bruton St. I am so please that I got this colour, I love it, it is great for work, not an overpowering colour at all.

Tresemme Hairspray. Not going to complain about having hairspray in the box, there is always a need for it and it is in a handy travel size too.

All in all I am very, very happy with what was in my Glossybox. I will use everything in it. I should add, I did not fill out the form asking for my details and skin routine etc. I am glad I did not, at least that way I will not be disappointed.

Glossybox, as a first time beauty box subscriber you exceeded my expectations. Now lets see what the next two will bring...

Soap and Glory

Soap and Glory

I bought this gift set from Boots . The products are travel sized which is nice to have because most of my travel sized items are not as nice smelling nor as comprehensive. Included in the set are:

Flake Away, good at getting rid of dead skin
Spray-on body moisturising mist, great if you are in a hurry
Hair wash, thick and heavy conditioning, gives a sheen to your hair
Body butter, nice and soothing after a long day
Shower gel which smells divine, no need to add perfume after washing with this

Eye catching packaging, lovely smelling and very reasonably priced.

Nails, Nails, Nails

Barry M is a new experience for me. I find some nail polishes are gloopy and take several coatings before you see a nice finish. However, this little lovely bottle of blue was too tempting to miss, so I risked a cheap bottle of polish. I am not at all disappointed, this took two coats to get a lovely sheen, I could have managed one to be honest. It is bright and spring-like and hard wearing which is a bonus. I will be purchasing more colours.

The Splurge

Make-up splurge
I couldn't help myself it was time to add to my make-up and face mask needs plus I could not resist the Barry M nail polish, I love the colour. I will review all the products once I have tried them but so far my favourites are the nail polish and the BB by Mua. I have heard a lot of positives in regards to the blenders so I went for Cosmopolitan, I have yet to use.

All products purchased from Superdrugs store.

Benefit Products

I really like the packaging, the products and the size of Benefit Cosmetics. Great instructions are included in the box sets and I was lucky enough to get a number of samples from the Benefit store after making a purchase, some of which I will be buying full sizes.

The mascara, Badgal Lash, is one of the best mascaras I think, the wand makes a huge difference to the application, making lashes longer, spreading out evenly.

Erase Paste, I have in full size. This product is amazing at hiding dark circles, blemishes and if applied properly gives a smooth coverage. I tend to apply this under my foundation.

Stay Don't Stray is OK. I wouldn't buy this full size. I don't see a difference in wear to be honest.

It's Potent, eye cream, is quite lovely. It is smooth and soothing and not greasy. In the past I have had reactions to eye creams so I tend to steer clear but this one is a keeper.

Rose tinted Benetint is something I got free out of a magazine. I have had this a while, a little goes a long way. Great for lips and cheeks but I use it on my lips. Depending on what intensity, you need to apply layers. For the day look l add three layers for a deeper colour l double it.

She's So Jetset box set is a little gem.

This box set is very handy, it has all the colours I need. Everyone should have Pore Professional in their make up bag, the hype is to be believed. The eyeshadows are nice but I find they are a little, sparkly for my liking. The blush is a nice colour for daytime wear and the lip gloss is nice refreshing colour but a bit gloopy if you have dry lips. They're Real mascara is a treat.

Are dry shampoos worth it?

Yes I like dry shampoos, particularly because my hair becomes oily very quickly and these products help to dry it out. Here are two products I have recently tried.

I love this particular brand,  Umberto Giannini, which I bought from Boots, a handy travel size. I may purchase the full size once I have finished this can. I like the smell and it does not leave a dusty white residue but my hair is blonde making white flecks hard to see so I can't vouch for brown-haired beauties. This product is  more expensive than the one I am about to review below but worth it.

I had to try this brand too, full size batiste, again its from Boots. This is cheaper than the Umberto Giannini by a few pounds. It is meant to have a flirty floral smell but I did not smell it, barely, perhaps that is a good thing. I don't like this, if there had been a travel size I would have got it but I am left to use this large can. Not impressed, it barely made a difference to my hair, and it looked like a snow storm on the top of my head. However if you have hair that needs a perk me up and a less intense need to get rid of the oil in your hair this might work as a freshener. It could work as a boost if you are willing to look like you have dandruff.

So for me who has limp, flat, oily hair the Umberto Giannini is the winner.

Feel free to provide me with your experiences with dry shampoos and if  there are any you recommend and if you have a blog, by all means add your link too.

Cook Books

A few of my favourite cook books and yes Gwyneth Paltrow cooks! I love the enthusiasm that Jamie Oliver brings to the table, the sultriness that Nigella adds to her very easy and simple delights and Gwyneth Paltrow whom brings alternative healthy options to some great meals.

I really enjoy flicking through the pages of these  books because they have wonderful photographs and the ingredients are listed simply and easy to follow instructions.

Marc Jacobs. Lola

Marc Jacobs designs are so eye catching that I could not resist this bottle of perfume. It smells lovely too but I tend to wear it in the evening, I prefer to wear fruity smells during the day and this has nice subtle tones for evenings out.  It is a bit top heavy and tends to topple over easily but who cares? If nothing else this bottle with the wonderful detailed gold 'necklace' and detailed flower is a real eye catcher and looks great on any dresser.

I have my eye on Marc Jacobs, Daisy. So perhaps when I am in the airport this will be a treat for myself.

Happy Mothers Day

Hope you enjoy today whether you are a mum or spending it with your mum.

I have received beautiful cards from my children, home made too. Flowers. I will post pictures soon. Sadly I have been ill since Friday, nothing but sleep. I am hoping today will be better.

Here are some special Mothers Day treats.

My space

Now that I have kids finding space for my things is a challenge. No matter where I sit or sleep there will be a toy, a kids book or crayons lurking. So I have found a place, albeit small where I can put my cup of tea, a book or flowers.

New hairstyle

My hair was very long and I needed a haircut and colour. As tradition, I tend to get a new style in the new year and for 2013 l decided to get an inverted bob. I had this style albeit a shorter version about ten years ago, I went to Vidal Sassoon creative school.

I love my new cut because it is long at the front and gives it body. My hair is fine and limp so it is nice to have a hairstyle that is easy to recreate at home and gives flat hair some bounce.

I am loving Cowshed products. I also enjoy the humour naming each item, Grumpy Cow, Horny cow etc, depending on your mood and needs. Natural ingredients are used to create these gorgeous smelling goodies which is a huge plus. The hand cream is thick, yet light enough so as not to be rubbing it in for an age. The candles smell amazing and when not lit they leave a nice aroma.  The oil which can be used directly to the skin or added to a bath, is non-greasy and leaves skin silky smooth. Body lotion is nice to apply and the shower gel is fantastic too. All in all, I recommend this brand.

Birthday Presents

I had a wonderful birthday weekend. Saturday was spent at Gunwharf in Portsmouth shopping with my husband. I got a coat from Barbour which I have been coveting for a while and wonderful Cath Kidston products as well as drinking coffee and hanging out. To top it off it was a nice day too. It reminded me a little of Vancouver by the harbour, you can see all the yachts and boats coming in and out.

Sunday was a little more chilled, had a nice breakfast cooked by my husband, the kids couldn't wait to give me the gifts. In the evening we went over to my in-laws for a lovely dinner and cake and I also received, daffodils, Cowshed gift box and it smells wonderful. Nail polish, face masks and a lovely green scarf, ready for spring.

My parents have booked a hotel for my family to stay in and I got some nice clothing too.

All in all a great weekend and a great birthday, it was nice not having sick kids and rain which has happened on my last few big days.

Photo: Love.
Products by Cowshed - organic. I love the smell of these products and the names too. The candles smell lovely and are pretty when lit. I will do a full on product review once I have tried all of the items.

Cath Kidston washbag, which I use as a makeup bag. A red Barbour biker coat and a cute teddy with I Love Mum. (I love cuddly toys, even at my age!)

Lots of flowers, roses, carnations and happy smiley yellow daffodils.

37 years old. Party!

Come the beginning of next week I will be at the ripe old age 37. I no longer care about how old I am, when asked I usually think I am a little older. I like being in my 30s, I am more mature, I have experience, I have a thicker skin, I take less crap from people and I laugh a lot but not as much as I used to!

I have had a lot of great experiences in my life, travel, marriage, kids. I have also experienced hard times, being in an accident, loosing my dogs, selling my horse, selling my house. But I have come to realise that no matter what trials are set upon me as a family we pull through.

A fancy car, a large house will not make me any happier but my family will always be there and we must stick together no matter what. Craving the latest iPhone, Jimmy Choos, designer clothes, the high lasts for a day or two until you crave more. Don't get me wrong I love to buy fancy things. Happiness is more than a purchase it is having close friends, a loving family, spending time with great people, sharing, caring. Going into debt is scary and can be detrimental. Don't go into debt for things you want.

I can also attest from my own experience there is no right time to have children, you can plan away but everything changes once you have them. So if you are holding out because you want the career, the lifestyle etc, don't. Depending on your mentality you may find that once you have kids a career no longer is a priority. For some nothing will get in the way of their success. For me my kids need someone at home when they need it, both my husband and I share that responsibility.

As it happened my career started once I had children. I increased my salary by 15k by starting a new job. Motherhood can be empowering.

I have a lot to look forward to and I still have a lot to learn. Come what may I can make things happen. Turning 37 is just the start of 2013.
