Ipsy Dec 2014 Review

I received my Ipsy Gam Bag just before Christmas and I am pleased with what I have. The NYX lip stick has a red tint to it, actually it is quite a strong colour. The eye shadow brush is a perfect travel size and lovely. I haven't used the Pixi fairy dust yet but it will make a nice highlighter. The bag it came is is a little small so can't carry much but I like it for when I am out carrying a smaller purse, it will keep my make-up pieces in one place and I will have to choose carefully with what I take out with me.

You can see what brands I had here.

Merry Christmas!

A Christmas Gift Idea.

iHeat Wear  Hand Warmer 1, on sale for $69.99 plus tax.

The iHeat Wear products have to be one of the best investments our there for everyone and could potentially be the most talked about Christmas present.

I suffer with cold hands, I am often tucking my hands into my pockets or wearing cumbersome big gloves when I am outdoors. Something as simple as picking up my keys from my bag can become a challenge when wearing thick gloves but the hand warmer allows for greater freedom.  Even when I am indoors, typing on the computer,  or watching the TV I am often pulling at my sleeves to cover my poor freezing hands.

Hand Warmer 2. $89.99 plus tax.

Wearing gloves in an office can be unsightly but the hand warmer is a great alternative. The hand warmer and gloves are excellent for cyclists, dog walkers, office workers, outdoor workers and sports folk alike. I have been using the hand warmer from iHeat Wear . I have the black one which is now on sale for $69.99 plus tax.

The iHeat products have controllable heated elements inside. Soft and oh, so cozy. It comes with  a rechargeable battery which is attached inside and concealed in the hidden zipper compartment . The adjustable strap as seen in the image goes around your waist, it also acts as a belt, I say this because my black long coat looks great pulled in at the waist and having access to something that warms my hands is an added bonus.

I am in love with this product, my hands quickly heat up inside the warmer and I can easily release my hands when I need them to be free. My kids also loves sneaking in their hands.

This is a new Canadian company which ships worldwide and they have other available products like heated inner-liner gloves which I hope to get at a later date to go over my normal gloves, great for winter bike rides, hikes etc. They also have ski gloves which I am seriously looking at purchasing for when I go skiing.

I highly recommend this product. Check out their website and order as soon as possible these babies run out fast.

Consignment Store

I love to browse through gently used clothing and furniture stores. I don't know what it is but it is fun rummaging through things. Perhaps it has something to do with when I was a kid, I would often go to jumble sales (a UK term) with my mum. Not as sophisticated as the second hand shops are today. You really have to know which ones to go to, there are some great charity shops that house great clothes and accessories then there are others that have tat in them. However, the independent owned consignment stores are more selective in what they take and you tend to find designer names and barely used clothes and jewelry.

I have found two stores in my area that sell lovely clothing. I have bought a fabulous black party dress from Fabulous for Less and in La Boutique Consignment I got a lovely Coach clutch bag with a nice Coach coin purse to go with.  The clutch bag and coin purse came with a gift, a necklace, the store has a promotion on, well it is the season.

My lovely Coach clutch. It looks much better in person. I don't normally go for animal prints but this has a lovely glittery sheen and has a lilac inner lining. It is barely used. I will be using it for the Christmas party.

This is the necklace I got from La Boutique. It will go with everything, it has a slight hint of brown to it and the colour can look darker or lighter depending on the lighting and what it is being worn with. This will go great with my black polo beck top which will be worn the day after the party event.

BWC: Facial Cleanser. I have facial cleansers, Bioderma, The cult of all cleansers and the best I have ever used so BWC has a lot to live up to if it gets anywhere near the list.

Crown Brush: This is meant to be highly sort after. I have a similar brush but you can't have too many.

NYX: Super excited trying this brand have always coveted it and a lip balm at this time of year is always a nice to have. I also use EOS lip balms so we shall see how this compares.

Pixi by Petra: Love this brand and I can't wait to receive this.

Tarte: Excellent brand but I wished it was something other than a mascara, I have too many travel sized mascara's already. The fact that it is a 4-1 mascara makes me highly suspicious, I have never needed to put four products on my eyelashes, have you?  The Tarte mascara boldly declares that it makes the eyelashes curl, I question how this is possible without the help of an eyelash curler. It volumizes which is not a real word(if you put a few layers on any mascara will do that job). It lengthens, well of course it does, most dark coloured mascara's do this. Conditions! Well I have yet to know whether a mascara does this or not and do my lashes really need conditioner?  I am skeptical to say the least.

Very happy with what is in this bag, I only hope the sizes are not as pathetic as my November Glam Bag. The black make-up bag looks good too.

I look forward to reviewing it.

Ipsy Glam Bag November 2014 Review

I have had this Ipsy Glam Bag November edition for a few weeks. I have held off writing a review because I felt it was a bit meh! My blog post will reflect my attitude towards this months bag, lackluster.

The lip paint is very good, the pigmentation is strong and holds its colour, a little darker to my normal but nice. The eye pencil is nice too not sure the green shade really goes with my blue eyes but I liked the consistency.  The black package contains a very tinyincy, wincy, not even as big as my thumb, sample sized eye concealer, it is nice and I am impressed by the product it isn't cake-like once applied and a little goes a long way, just as well really because this product size will only last three applications. The Marc Anthony hairspray is fine. can't say it makes my hair shine all that much, it will travel nicely in a small purse/bag. I have yet to try the moisturiser SeaRx, again it is a small sample and will only last two maybe three applications so it will be impossible to say how good this product really is, I find you need at least a week to see how a moisuriser works on the skin. The storage bag itself is more for a young girl I will not be going out in public with it, I am too old for this style, it looks plastic and cheap. I know a little girl who would love it. It looks like Forever 21 collaborated with Ipsy on this one, it doesn't make me want to step into the Forever 21 store.

The reason for being so underwhelmed by this months Ipsy Glam Bag is simply the size of the products. They are truly sample sizes except for the eyelinerm maybe the lip paint is full sized but it is still small. As you can see from the photo the eyeliner is the biggest item and just fits in the bag,

I will be interested to see what December has to offer. I have had this subscription for three months now which is my marker for deciding whether I will continue or cancel so I am giving it one more month.

You can see more about the product brands in this package here.

Floppy Hat Trend

I added a flower to my floppy hat. I see so many people wearing them as is that I thought I would add something to it. Easy accessory to add to a plain black hat.

The SeaRx skincare product looks like a nice-to-have particularly this time of year, it will help brighten my skin. The under eye concealer by IT Cosmetics will be great, I do have a similar product that I have not used much of but one that is easy to travel with is useful. J. Cat Beauty Wonder Lip Paint, I am OK with this, I have lots of lipsticks. Marc Anthony Oil of Morocco Hairspray; will be interesting to see if this actually provides a shine to my hair. Finally an eye pencil by Starlooks.  meh! I hardly use eye pencils unless it is a pale colour to make my eyes look bigger. I find that dark shades make my eyes look even smaller, however it is meant to have a shimmer to it and comes in a goldish or greenish. The gold will be preferable for my eye colour.

I am happy with this selection.

John Fluevog Shoes - Vancouver

I bought my first ever pair of John Fluevog shoes from the store in Gastown, Vancouver. I have been coveting this brand for a few years now. The shoes are not the cheapest on the market but my god are they comfy. I have not worn 4inch heels since before children, I just can't run around in them but these beauties, named Kendra, are so comfy, elegant and sophisticated that they can dress-up any outfit or go nice with a pair of jeans and I can walk in them!

There were so many shoes in store this season that I wanted to buy but for $319 (inc tax) for these babies I could not stomach purchasing another pair.

There is so much detail that go into these shoes. The soles are made of leather and are stamped with, "Elegant Conversation. Listen Loud. Speak Softly." The soles are signed and so is the leather on the outside of the shoe on the heal.

The blue storage box comes with a card and a shoe bag.

There is also a great selection of men's shoes too. I have been to some high-end suit shops in London on Saville Row, Mayfair. Fluevog shoes are on a par with the off-the-shelf shoes in this area. Quality products, excellent customer service, aftercare and the shoes come with a one-year warranty too.

My new shoes have these amazing shaped heels, they look amazing when they are on, elongating the leg (I am vertically challenged so this is a bonus). They are thick and provide stability and comfort for shopping trips or a function where standing is needed for long periods.

I highly recommend visiting the store and investing in a pair of Fluevog shoes.

Ipsy Glam Bag October 2014 Review

It has arrived; my October Glam Bag from Ipsy. What I love the most about this subscription is the makeup bags, I can use them for all sorts of storage and also for going out. I tend to have large make-up bags to home my goodies but nothing to take out with me so this is a bonus. The makeup bag in this months package is a little bigger than the September issue and I love the bright colour.

The Doll10 highlighted is lovely, it adds a nice sheen to cheek bones. Easy to apply, I used my fingers and dabbed it into the areas I wanted highlighting. I would buy this one.

The ModelCo Mascara is very nice and I am impressed with this. I am not sure it gives volume unless I really layer it on, like most mascaras to get volume several coats are needed. However, I like this because it is nice and light with a nice brush and it doesn't smudge.

The City Color Be Matte lipstick in Cappuccino is a nice neutral colour and being matte it lasts longer. My husband says he hates the glossy ones, he thinks they look sticky and the last thing he wants is lipstick on his face too! As it happens I prefer matte finishes also. Never heard of this brand before. One thing I will say is; the best matte lipstick I have ever invested any money in is Chanel. It stays on longer and looks and feels silky and luxurious. The City Color brand is great for on the go, everyday use.

The Figs & Rouge handcream all the way from the UK (yeah!) smells gorgeous, I am familiar with this brand. I like the mango smell, hmmm! The cream feels a little watery at first but soon sinks into the hands and smells divine. This is a great addition to my bag with the colder days ahead. The handy travel size makes it easy to take out and about.

The makeup wipes that I have yet to use and will only use when I am on the go and need to wipe away the makeup quickly is a nice addition too.

Not sure why this one is called Beauty Candy, somehow it doesn't really fit with this time of year or the products but there you are.

The neat little package is a great one this month.

Hair Dressers

I don't know about you but finding a hairdresser that you like and can be loyal to is a real challenge. My hair type is easy to work with but the amount of people that have screwed it up over the years is astonishing. Many times I have left a salon looking like I have aged ten years or a cut that washes terribly and cannot be styled at home. A few years ago I had a cut that made my hair frizzy, it was a first for me. However, I finally found myself a good hair stylist, she has the same hair type as I and we both liked the same looks so she could easily cut and blow dry my hair without thinking too much.  Yesterday I called up for a last minute appointment only to discover she has moved onto pastures new. Noooooo! All was not lost, the lady who I was referred to was even better. She cut it and styled it in a way that suits me. She listened to what I wanted and shaped it along the way until we decided it was finished. In fact she was positively lovely and easy to talk to (the talking is the bit that kills me at hairdressers, I feel obliged to chat even though I prefer not to in most cases). So where did I go? I went to Luxe Hair Salon in Port Moody. The staff are friendly, the customer service is excellent, they will hang up your bag and coat which is out of view and located at your station. They have a varied drinks menu and it is very relaxed.

So here is the cut and I am very, very pleased with it, indeed.

It is that time again. The Ipsy Glam Bag for October is ready to be shipped and I have to sneak-a- peek.

I am loving what is in this so far. The lipstick looks nice, the blush too. I am ready for a new hand-cream and a mascara is always handy. The cleansing cloths are great for when I am out and about.

I won't actually receive this for at least ten days but I am excited to get my hands on it.

Fashion Splurge

Jessica shoes, Sears Outlet Store. $9.99 Love these shoes. I have been looking for some t-bar shoes that are not clumpy for a while and I found the last pair in my size. These are lovely on and are comfortable too. It has a nice heal that I can cope with.
Night gown by Jessica, Sears Outlet Store, I got this for $24.99. This gown is nice and long, it reaches my ankles, you have no idea how hard it is for me to get a dress to be fit me in length, long dresses drag on the floor these days because the length on regular size products have increased in the last ten years. They only had a large size but as it happens it is nicer to sleep in, less likely to break a strap when turning in my sleep.

Joe Browns Jacket from the UK online store. I got this in the sale, my mum got this for me and gave it to me as a gift when she visited me in Canada. Nice with jeans, great with a skirt I have that gives more of a bohemian style.

Calvin Klein rain coat at The Bay $119.00

Ipsy Glam Bag Review

My little bag of goodies. I am very happy with all the products especially the nail polish.. The eyeliner is a nice travel size the Bombshell powder I have yet to use, I tend not to use powders on my face. The Cailyn lip gloss or to be precise the, Art Touch Tinted Lip Gloss, is as expected except it is nice and smooth and moisturizing but with all lip glosses I have worn I have yet to find one that is as hard wearing as a lipstick. As soon as I eat or drink it has to be reapplied. Nonetheless, it is a great lip gloss for the upcoming colder months. The colour I received was Basic Instinct. The Briogeo Don't Despair Repair is a nice product, it is upto 90% natural which is a bonus too and you can purchase this from Sephora.

The Sally Hansen Miracle Gel is truly a fabulous product and I wear it on my toes for when I am in the yoga studio. It lasts, it did not chip for a week and a half and that was because I knocked my toe. They looked shiny and healthy and very hard wearing. This is by far one of the best nail polishes I have ever used. My colour was Pretty Piggy. This is by far my favourite item.
