I Love Art

I love to have a piece of original art at home. There are plenty of places to find good paintings without having to remortgage your house. I am a hobby painter and have exhibited in a the UK and Canada and have sold a number of pieces over the years.

I like to create vibrant paintings of scenery and animals. I tend not to do portraits, what I might see is not necessarily how the person in question views it besides it is not my strongest area.

Anyway, here is one of my recent paintings, 24x24 canvas, acrylics. My work is contemporary and abstract. I remember exhibiting in a village in the England and my work stood out because it was not classical flowers and the colours were strong etc and a lady loved my work but she told me my work would be better exhibited in London. I sadly did not get the time to do it with another big move ahead of me but maybe sometime in the future.

I have a blog and a site that I post and discuss my work and others work. I like to see how my art evolves as I do more.

Visit my other work here.

Nostalgic Cooking - Sophie Dahl

Because I have spent most of my adult life living away from England I seek comfort upon occasion. Sophie Dahl's cooking show is the epitome of English cooking and the things I will cook when I am in need of some traditional home food. I don't crave home as I once did but I do miss some of the places I used to visit as a child, the people and the humour and quirks of the Brits.

This particular episodes makes me nostalgic but that is the point.

Sophie Dahl Cooking Show

Sophie Dahl, the granddaughter to author Roald Dahl had this lovely cooking show a few years ago. I love the way she talks about food and the way she brings traditional dishes together. She is entertaining to watch and I love to listen to her story as she cooks. It is a shame that the show ended so soon, infact I rarely see cooking shows anymore, the cooking channel is now saturated by reality cooking shows which I think is aweful like Iron Chef- urgh! Or Chopped which is competitive or Cutthroat Kitchen which is equally tedious. I want to learn new recipes not watch people fighting to be the best at what they do, only to be edited for entertainment purposes. I want the genuine cooking shows that explain how to make a decent cake! Thank goodness for Youtube, now I can watch my fave cooking shows.

Up-cycle, Recycle

I have found some amazing consignments shops recently, a vintage store, a designer store and a furniture store called Around My House Consignment. You know when a second hand furniture shop is good when you have interior designers coming in and taking all the good items and the Fairmont Hotel send their unwanted hotel furniture. One thing these lovely shops have in common they all have high end items and their costs are low. I love to recycle if I can and purchase lovingly used items because if you know what you are looking for you can get some quality products for considerably less than the mass producing stores.

I now own a dresser and side table and a vanity all painted in FAT paint and the pieces work perfectly in our bedroom. The store restore furniture, paint them, re-upholster and they can custom design too. They also schedule workshops.

Not only do they have a great selection of furniture they also stock, china, soft furnishings and vintage items.

Great place to browse without pressure and there is always a steady flow of customers.

Louis Vuitton

Recently I discovered a lovely consignment shop called La Boutique Consignment. I am almost reluctant to tell you its name because I want to keep it a secret for selfish reasons. They have some fabulous brands including high end designer names, more recently some Louis Vuitton products, the real deal, hardly used or brand new.

Over the past few weeks I have managed to purchase a Louis Vuitton purse/wallet for $60 and a very good sized Louis Vuitton bag for $110, brand new with the tags and plastic still on the handles.

I am so happy with my purchases. I would never pay the full amount for these items, not anymore, not if I do not have to. It is worth shopping around ladies. You don't always have to pay the going rate.

La Boutique Consignment also stock, fashion accessories and clothing and the delightful Barb is always happy to assist but she also leaves you alone to browse. The store stocks petite to plus sizes and everything is fairly priced.

What girl doesn't like a bit of Louis Vuitton? I am so happy that I have found this gem of a shop.
